This cigar is part of the Le Hoyo series, a special series made for a Swiss distributor in the years 1940's and, as the cigars from this series, is pretty different than other Hoyo de Monterrey. The Hoyo du Maire, is a medium to full flavored cigar, with tobacco and wood as main flavors. There are also lots of toasted aromas, and notes of leather, cream and a bit of tea notes. Despite being a pretty short smoke, not more than half an hour, but still manages to provide the typical Cuban "twang" with a lot of complexity, while never being over powerful. Released at the 2014 Habanos Festival, this big ring gauge cigar is reminiscent of the old brand, but with a modern twist that appeal to many big ring gauges aficionados. It sports a new band which reads “Serie Le Hoyo” but as any Hoyo de Monterrey, it is hand rolled only using tobacco from San Juan y Martínez district, where the brand was born in 1865. The H.Upmann Royal Robustos is a medium Edmundo, a La Casa Del Habano exclusivity, 5.3” (135mm) long, of 52 ring gauge, and comes in a 10 cigars box. Released in limited quantities in 2011, in front of its great success, the production of this little jewel continued since 2012. This is cigar is hand-rolled by La Casa Del Habanos for H Upmann, and is using only long filler and tobacco leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone in the Pinar del Rio region in Cuba. The cigar has a beautiful construction, smokes very well. Not a very strong cigar, nor very complex, it is medium bodied, and offers great Cuban flavors: coffee, earth, hay and lots of cedar.
