The Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure de Luxe LCDH is a light yet rich Magico, 4.5” (115mm) long, of 52 ring gauge, and comes in a 10 cigars box. In 2012 Hoyo de Monterrey, one of the oldest Habanos brand, decided to launch an exclusive line for La casa del Habano, and released the Epicure de Luxe. It is only using tobacco from the most valuable area in Cuba, the famous Vuelta Abajo. This smoke packs all the typical Hoyo de Monterrey’s flavours into a small yet exclusive cigar, that is comparable to the 2012 Limited Editions, but which is cheaper than these. The construction is superb, it is fully handmade, its high level of quality is on par with any cigar out of La Casa del Habanos. Released at the 2014 Habanos Festival, this big ring gauge cigar is reminiscent of the old brand, but with a modern twist that appeal to many big ring gauges aficionados. It sports a new band which reads “Serie Le Hoyo” but as any Hoyo de Monterrey, it is hand rolled only using tobacco from San Juan y Martínez district, where the brand was born in 1865. The Hoyo du Maire is part of Le Hoyo Series and is of Small Panetela/Entreactos format, 30 ring gauge and 3.9 inches (100mm) in length. This cigar is part of the Le Hoyo series, a special series made for a Swiss distributor in the years 1940's and, as the cigars from this series, is pretty different than other Hoyo de Monterrey. The Hoyo du Maire, is a medium to full flavored cigar, with tobacco and wood as main flavors. There are also lots of toasted aromas, and notes of leather, cream and a bit of tea notes. Despite being a pretty short smoke, not more than half an hour, but still manages to provide the typical Cuban "twang" with a lot of complexity, while never being over powerful.
