Released in 2020, the Ramon Allones No.2 is a 2019 Edición Limitada, an elegant 5.5” (140mm) by 52 ring gauge, and comes in a luxury box of 10 cigars. Revealed at the XXI Festival del Habano in 2019, among the Montecristo Supremos and Quai d’Orsay Senadores, it was only released virtually in late 2020 for some selected guests. The guests had each received an individual gift bag including the cigar, a mini bottle of cognac, a cognac glass and three selected chocolates, which would beautifully pair with the Ramon Allones No.2. The cigars have all been hand rolled with tobacco leaves which have been aged for 2 to 5 years, instead of being rolled with regular tobacco leaves and then aged in their boxes, which gave more time to the flavors No.2 to develop and get richer. The flavors are typical Ramon Allones, reminiscent of the Specially Selected but with some nutiness and more sweetness than the regular production cigar. It is also more powerful than the Specially Selected, a medium to full body cigar and full flavored. The vitola used for the Ramon Allones No.2 is the Campanas, similar to the acclaimed Bolivar Belicosos Finos, which was used only once before for a Ramon Allones when they released the Ramon Allones Belicosos Finos exclusively for the UK market in 2005. Once released in stores, the Ramon Allones No.2 comes in a beautiful green lacquered box with a raised top, which is very different visually from other Edición Limitadas or any other Habanos releases and would magnificently complement the aficionado’s humidor. The Partagas 8-9-8 is a strong and delicate medium-full Lonsdale, 6.7” (170mm) long, of 43 ring gauge, and comes in a varnished cabinet of 25 cigars. This Partagas is named after the number of Habanos placed on each layer of the cabinet, there are 8 cigars on the top and bottom row and 9 in the middle one. This is a great cigar that is medium-to-full body, which will better suit a Cuban cigar aficionado rather than a newcomer to Habanos. Thanks to its almost perfect construction, it offers an amazing draw, and burns beautifully throughout the entire cigar, while a luxurious ash builds up at the foot. The 8-9-8 provides typical Partagas flavors, lots of charred aromas, musty earth, wood, cocoa, leather. The Montecristo No.3 is a creamy and complex underrated cigar, of Corona format, of 42 ring gauge, 5.6” (142mm) long and comes in 5 packs of 5 cigars. It is slightly bigger than the Montecristo No.4 but smaller than the No.1, two very famous cigars. Therefore, it creates a bridge between the two, it has the same ring gauge as the No.4 but slightly longer. The Montecristo No.1 is of Lonsdale format, or Cervantes, 42 ring gauge and 6.5 inches (165mm) in length. As opposed to No.2 and the No.4, the No.1 is little known, and this is a shame because this little stogie packs a true Montecristo experience in a perfectly rolled cigar. It is also a pretty strong smoke, oscillating between a medium and a medium to full bodied cigar. It is nevertheless very creamy and smooth. There are lots of earth, cedar, tobacco flavors as you would expect from a Cuban cigar, but there are also many other flavors, such as strong nuts, all kind fruits, some citrus, chocolate, vanilla. This is the shortest cigar in the Linea 1492.This small format Habano, short and thin gauge, is a quick smoke. The burn is even and nice. A perfect choice for a short break.
