As other newer cigars, Habanos released this very short vitola (the shortest hand rolled cigar along with the H Upmann Half Corona), that fits perfectly the need for customers to enjoy a Cuban cigar in a short time. This vitola is totally hand made with long filler, using leaves from Vuelta Abajo, known for producing the best tobacco leaves in the world, in the region of Pinar del Rio. As expected from Montecristo, the Media Corona is perfectly rolled, a great draw and smokes beautifully. $299.00The Hoyo du Maire is part of Le Hoyo Series and is of Small Panetela/Entreactos format, 30 ring gauge and 3.9 inches (100mm) in length. This cigar is part of the Le Hoyo series, a special series made for a Swiss distributor in the years 1940's and, as the cigars from this series, is pretty different than other Hoyo de Monterrey. The Hoyo du Maire, is a medium to full flavored cigar, with tobacco and wood as main flavors. There are also lots of toasted aromas, and notes of leather, cream and a bit of tea notes. Despite being a pretty short smoke, not more than half an hour, but still manages to provide the typical Cuban "twang" with a lot of complexity, while never being over powerful. The Don Alejandro gets its name after one of the most famous Cuban tobacco grower, Alejandro Robaina, which was working for the family business even before the revolution. Its amazing tobacco, growing in the Vuelta Abajo region, was many times honored by the Cuban government as Vegas Robaina was named best tobacco grower during the 1990’s. The Vegas Robaina Don Alejandro is of Prominente format, 49 ring gauge and 7.6 inches (194mm) in length and was launched in 1997 along with the brand other vitolas. It is a very beautiful cigar to start with; the wrapper is incredibly smooth and has a nice milk chocolate color. The cigar smoke starts off with lots of chocolate and creamy coffee. There is also some leather, some nuts, a bit of wood and vanilla. Some notes of cherries are also to be found. The cigar is very smooth, never too harsh, oscillating between a medium and a medium-full body.
