Presentation:

The Montecristo Dumas comes in a gorgeous black lacquered Boîte Nature Box of 20 cigars with Habanos packing code SPB-S-n-n-n-20

Dimensions:

Length: 130mm (5.1 inches)

Ring Gauge: 49

Shape:

Corona Extra

Appearance:

Part of the premium Linea 1935 which celebrates the creation year of the Montecristo brand, the Montecristo Dumas comes with the standard Montecristo band, a second one that reads Linea 1935 Dumas and the specific Montecristo foot-band that covers and protect the foot of the cigar. The wrapper is very pretty, has a nice golden brown color (of colorado shade). It is fairly oily and has very few apparent veins. The Dumas is tightly packed and only squeezes a little bit when pressed between the fingers.

Smoking Notes:

Before lighting up

At cold, the draw gives plenty of cedar. On the wrapper, some sweet dry aromas, reminiscent of raisins or dried plum. Cedar on the foot as well.

Burn/ Draw

Once the cigar lit, the draw is good and is never an issue going forward, only a bit on the firm side when reaching the middle of the cigar. The Dumas burns slowly and the wavy burn line that appears after the first puffs tends to self correct soon enough.

Initial third:

The first impressions we get from the opening of the cigar is smoothness, creaminess, which is surprising despite being a relative young cigar. There is a fair amount of fruity flavors, stone fruit to be more precise, some toasted almonds on the retrohale. We also get the usual Montecristo’s trademark flavors, lots of dark cocoa and cedar. Pretty smooth overall, there is a bit of harshness towards the end of the third, revealing the young age of the cigar. Body at medium mark.

Middle third:

The Montecristo Dumas gets smoother in the middle third, no more of this youth harshness. Instead, much more smooth cedar, still plenty of cocoa and a bit of leather. The toasted nuttiness is still there, but the fruity notes are gone. It is less typical of a Montecristo smoke at this point but maybe more reminiscent of a Ramon Allones Specially Selected. The draw becomes a bit tighter at this stage, but the cigar is still smoking slowly and cool. Still at a medium body until this point.

Final third:

In the final third, the cigar becomes stronger in body, towards a medium-full level, but smoother in terms of flavors at the same time. Stronger flavors with no ammonia or any kind of harshness. The woodiness is now more of a matured cedar, mixed with some leather. Still the toasted nuts.

In summary, it is a beautiful Montecristo that packs a punch in a small cigar.

Smoking time:   45 minutes – 60 minutes
