Inspired by Shakespeare’s famous characters, the brand Romeo y Julieta was established in 1875 by Inocencio Alvarez and Mannin Garcia in Havana, Cuba. The marca quickly made a name for itself, by earning four gold medals in several universal exhibitions in the late 19th century, which are still visible on the brand logo (on both sides of the main picture). It then really became popular under the marketing efforts of its new owner, José “Pepin” Rodriguez Fernandez, which acquired the company at the beginning of the 20th century. Pepin notably promoted the brand through horse racing events in Europe and the Americas, by entering his own horse under name of “Julieta”.
The brand notoriety continued to grow until today where it is one of the most popular Cuban brand. Its most famous aficionado was surely Sir Winston Churchill, which gave its name to several Romeo y Julieta cigars and to the classic “Churchill” cigar, a massive 7 by 47 ring gauge cigar. There is also a Dominican Romeo y Julieta cigar brand that was started after the Cuban revolution. However, the original brand is Cuban Romeo y Julieta that is mentioned here.

This marca also offers one of the widest selection of Habanos, you will surely find the one that suits you, the most famous vitolas are the Romeo y Julieta Mille Fleurs, the Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills, the Romeo y Julieta No.2 among others.
