The Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure de Luxe LCDH is a light yet rich Magico, 4.5” (115mm) long, of 52 ring gauge, and comes in a 10 cigars box. In 2012 Hoyo de Monterrey, one of the oldest Habanos brand, decided to launch an exclusive line for La casa del Habano, and released the Epicure de Luxe. It is only using tobacco from the most valuable area in Cuba, the famous Vuelta Abajo. This smoke packs all the typical Hoyo de Monterrey’s flavours into a small yet exclusive cigar, that is comparable to the 2012 Limited Editions, but which is cheaper than these. The construction is superb, it is fully handmade, its high level of quality is on par with any cigar out of La Casa del Habanos. On the flavor profile, it is rather light in taste yet shows a great level of complexity and control of aromas. The Hoyo du Maire is part of Le Hoyo Series and is of Small Panetela/Entreactos format, 30 ring gauge and 3.9 inches (100mm) in length. This cigar is part of the Le Hoyo series, a special series made for a Swiss distributor in the years 1940's and, as the cigars from this series, is pretty different than other Hoyo de Monterrey. The Hoyo du Maire, is a medium to full flavored cigar, with tobacco and wood as main flavors. There are also lots of toasted aromas, and notes of leather, cream and a bit of tea notes. Despite being a pretty short smoke, not more than half an hour, but still manages to provide the typical Cuban "twang" with a lot of complexity, while never being over powerful. The Jose L. Piedra Petit Caballeros is an amazing Corona Extra, 4.75” by 48, rolled with short-filler and comes in a bundle of 12 cigars. Released in 2020, it is the latest release from the Jose L. Piedra brand before the planned makeover of the brand by Habanos. Among a redesign of the logo and the band, Habanos is also moving away from the 25 cigars bundle in preference to a 12 cigars bundle. The vitola used for this cigar is called Hermoso Especial, only used before for the 2017 Punch Regios de Punch Edición Limitada. Its rather simple flavor profile is dominated by cedar, pepper and peanuts, and its perfect construction makes it the ideal cigar for an outdoor activity or when you cannot focus too much on the flavors.
