The Hoyo de Monterrey Primaveras is a 2021 special release Habano, a 6.62” (167mm) by 48 ring gauge, and comes in a luxury box of 18 cigars. It is celebrating the Chinese zodiac calendar, 2021 being the year of the Ox, which brings prosperity and wellness. The number 8 is considered a lucky number in the Chinese culture and it is pronounced ‘Fa’ which can be translated to ‘well off’ and ‘getting rich in a short time’. Presented virtually by the Habanos distributor for the Southeast Asia region, the 18 cigars come in an elegant enameled red and gold box, with the words “Year of the Ox” printed on the lid. The cigar is a Grand Corona, or more precisely a vitola de galera called Hermosos No. 1, which was previously used for the Montecristo Dantés Edición Limitada 2016, the Romeo y Julieta Hermosos No. 1 Edición Limitada 2003 and a La Casa del Habano exclusive release, the San Cristobal Mercaderes. Like all Hoyo de Monterrey cigars, it is medium in strength, so it shouldn’t be paired with something too strong, but is a great morning cigar which should only get better with some ageing. The Juan Lopez Petit Coronas is a rich and smooth medium Habanos of Petit Corona format, 5.1” (129mm) long, of 42 ring gauge, and comes in a 25 cigars box. It’s neither the most famous Petit Coronas from Habanos SA for sure, nor the prettiest looking. However, it is a very affordable stogie that is very pleasant to smoke. It is a smoke that offers typical Cuban flavors, wood, tobacco, strong leather, earthy tones, coupled with lots of soft spices and notes of cocoa, honey, nuts and hay. Thanks to its amazing construction, the draw is perfect all along; the burn line is sharp and generates a good amount of smoke. The Juan Lopez Seleccion No.1 is a rich and tasty medium Habanos of Grand Corona format, 5.6” (143mm) long, of 46 ring gauge, and comes in a 25 cigars box. The Juan Lopez brand is one the oldest founded in Cuba, in 1876. Released in 1990s, it is fully hand-made with Vuelta Abajo filler leaves. It can be sometimes hard to find, as the production can be interrupted at times, due to high quality standards. It is a Corona Gorda format, an extraordinary compromise between a Churchill, a Hermoso No.4 and a Corona. It is full of flavors; the aromas are well balanced between woodsy, earthy, sweet and peppery aromas and some creaminess to bind it all. The texture of the Juan Lopez Seleccion No.1 is amazing, generates lots of creamy smoke and an amazing taste. It can be both enjoyed young and fresh or with some more age and would delight both the beginner and the cigar aficionado. In short, a very impressive smoke by a lesson-known Cuban brand. The La Flor De Cano Petit Coronas is a mild and affordable Habanos, 4.8” (123mm) long, of 40 ring gauge, and comes in a 25 cigars box. After being machine made until 2002, it is now fully hand rolled using short filler from tobacco blend from both Vuelta Abajo and Semi Vuelta regions. It comes in a beautiful cedar sleeve that enhances the ageing process. It is a mild cigar, that is perfect as a morning smoke and which is a great entry smoke for a beginner. It is not too strong, but almost a medium smoke when reaching the nub of the cigar. It’s great price to quality ratio, the stogie smokes very well. Más información
