The Romeo y Julieta Linea de Oro Hidalgos, part of the new top tier segment of the brand, is a delicious Robusto, which comes in a box of 20 cigars. The “Linea de Oro”, literally the “golden line” in Spanish is the pendant of the Maduro 5 line for the Cohiba, the top of the crop among the Romeo y Julieta brand, launched to celebrate the brand's 145th anniversary. Habanos released three totally new cigars, which are among the biggest ring gauge cigars available among Habanos, the Hidalgos, the Nobles and Dianas. The Hidalgos vitola (also called Hidalgos), is 57 ring gauge by 4 ⅞ inches and, as the other two, comes in a refined high lacquered box of 20 cigars. One can right away see that these cigars are different from the regular production line, as the box is painted in a very elegant red and gold colors, adorned with an embossed golden medallion on the lid, representing the classic balcony scene. Each cigar comes with a specific Linea de Oro band with the name of the cigar as well as a secondary golden band at the foot. The Hidalgos, Nobles and Dianas are all stronger than the regular Romeo y Julieta cigars, their strength around medium to full. The Romeo y Julieta Churchills is a world famous strong julieta, with 47 ring gauge, 7" (178mm) long and comes in aluminum tubes in a box of 15 cigars. Despite being a strong bodied vitola, the Churchill is smooth and creamy nevertheless. It is perfectly constructed and its draw is smooth and easy. The Romeo y Julieta Belvederes a lovely medium bodied Habano, of short panetela format, with 39 ring gauge, 4.9” (125mm) long and comes in a box of 25 cigars. It is of great construction, hand rolled using only premium tobacco grown in the best tobacco growing region of Vuelta Abajo in Cuba. It packs all the typical Romeo y Julieta flavors, lots of wood and cedar, floral notes and plenty of spices and pepper. The smoke is very round, doesn’t have rough edges never aggressive. The Quintero y Hermano Brevas is a top-class Habanos, a creamy medium Corona, 5.5” (140mm) long, of 41 ring gauge, and comes in a 25 cigars box. It is one of the cheapest Cuban cigars available but you won’t find it everywhere. Some will love it, others may not, but it surely has it fans. This is a long filler cigar, handmade with a new blend and a higher quality tobacco. A very rich cigar that has nice aromas of smoked wood, earth, cream and spices. The Super Partagas has a medium tobacco taste that is slightly sweet. Goes very well with a black coffee. Its wrapper is beautiful and oily. Even better when aged. The Partagas Petit Coronas Especiales is a short and medium delicacy, of Mareva format, 42 ring gauge, 5.2” (132mm) long and comes in a box of 25 cigars. What used to be a machine made cigar until 2002 (slightly bigger in diameter), is now fully hand-rolled and it comes in between the Mille Fleur and the Petit Corona in term of classification. It packs lots of strength and flavor is relative short smoke (approx. 45 mins). There are the vigorous typical Partagas flavors, with lots of cedar, earth, salt, black coffee and some creamy notes as well. There is for sure lots of spice from pepper and cinnamon. Overall the cigar is a solid medium, which would pair beautifully with a smoky whiskey.
