San Cristobal de La Habana

San Cristobal de La Habana

Year of foundation: 1999
Tobacco Country: Cuba
Tobacco Procedence: Vuelta Abajo
Factory: La Corona

The most recent of Habanos brands, being launched in 1999 in Havana, San Cristóbal de la Habana is not related to an older brand which existed until the Cuban Revolution. The brand honors the original name of the city of Havana; St Christopher for the Saint of the day when the city was founded in 1519 and La Habana refers to a native name for the site. Four vitolas were originally released, each named after a Spanish fortress that was used to defend this important commercial hub for Spain’s American empire. They were La Fuerza, La Punta, El Príncipe and El Morro. The latter has now been discontinued but new “La Casa del Habano” exclusive cigars are regularly added to the line-up. All cigars made by San Cristóbal de la Habana are hand rolled using tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo tobacco region and are known to be medium body.
The best selling cigars are the
San Cristobal El Principe, the San Cristobal La Punta and the San Cristobal La Fuerza.

Launched by Habanos in 1999, it is hand rolled using only tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo region. It gets its name from one of the fortress of La Habana that used to defend the city during the Spanish Latin America Empire times. Despite its lack of fame, it is definitely a cigar that worth a try. Like other vitolas from the San Cristobal marca, La Punta cigar is pretty smooth, medium range in strength, overall very creamy and which develops a nice complexity of flavors along the whole smoke. There is plenty of leather, wood, barnyard, hay, nuts, toasty aromas, fruits notes, some chocolate, and some coffee. There is a delicious sweetness along the whole cigar too. In short, it is a very pleasant cigar that deserves more fame. Más información

The San Cristóbal de La Habana 20 Aniversario, a La Casa del Habano exclusive release, is 6.3” (162mm) by 52 ring gauge, and comes in a humidor of 20 cigars. Its official vitola name is the Capuleto, of Double Robusto size, only used once before by Hababanos with the Romeo y Julieta De Luxe Edición Limitada of 2013. First announced in 2019 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the brand launched in 1999, the San Cristobal de La Habana 20 Aniversario only hit the shelves in late 2020, and is sold exclusively in La Casa del Habanos stores around the world. This is the third LCDH exclusive release from San Cristóbal, after the Mercaderes and the Murallas released in the mid 00’s and now discontinued. Habanos really stepped up their presentation with these cigars, as they come in a beautiful pirate’s treasure chest shaped humidor, with a mix of light and dark woods. The cigars themselves are looking amazing, massive in size but tightly packed and virtually flawless. In addition to the usual San Cristóbal band, there is also a second band, reserved to the “La Casa del Habano” exclusive cigars. This will please the collectors which have awaited this humidor for many months. Make sure to get it before it is gone! Más información
