Appearance:
This is a very beautiful cigar. The construction is impeccable. It has a beautiful wrapper, practically flawless, a bit darker than a Colorado wrapper. And there is a very nice little pig tail at the cap. The band has an awesome finish with two security holograms on it; it comes off without much effort and without damaging the cigar whatsoever. The cigar has a slight spongy feel while still being firm. And its texture is fabulous.
Smoking Notes:
Before lighting up
Amazing aromas emanate from the wrapper and the foot.
Burn/ Draw
The draw is very open. Each draw lets out lots of velvety and thick smoke. The burn line is even and neat throughout the cigar.
Initial third:
Right off the bat, the cigar provides excellent flavor. The cigar is very creamy, has generous aromas. We can notice beautiful notes of cocoa. It is a typical Cohiba with wonderful earthy and woodsy flavors. Towards the end of the first third, subtle hints of sweet spices also appear. All these aromas make a pleasant combination that lingers on the palate.
Middle third:
While the cocoa, woodsy flavors of the first third remain, the second third brings some more complexity to the cigar. Each draw brings something different, we start to detect some more citrus aromas, of orange, and also some aromas of vanilla and a hint of leather. The chocolate flavor gets sweeter, as well as the other flavors. The second third is of course still very creamy, and each draw releases a generous amount of white velvety smoke. The draw remains open and consistent throughout the middle third.
Final third:
In the final third, the BHK 52 reveals its true self, a real Cohiba, but with stronger and bitter aromas than the average vitola. Among the very creamy and sweet flavors, we now can also get some hints of cedar, coffee and bitter chocolate. The bitter aromas from the second third, of cedar and citrus are still present, but overall, the bitterness is not overwhelming and arises only at the right moment, like in a good dark chocolate or Italian espresso. We can also pick up notes of vanilla from time to time. The BHK 52 then reveals an amazing balance of flavors that linger nicely on the palate. It is a pleasure to smoke this cigar until the nub, where hints of spice, that of typical Cohiba, reveal the full complexity of the BHK 52.
In summary, this cigar is an exceptional Cohiba that goes well with special occasions. Its perfect construction and flawless balance will delight you, from moment you open the beautiful lacquered box to the moment you have to let that beautiful cigar in the ashtray.
