The Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No.1 is a smooth, light-medium Corona Gorda, 5.6” (143mm) long, of 46 ring gauge, and comes in a 50 cigars cabinet. It is a cigar of the next to perfect construction; the wrapper is smooth and slightly oily. It is smoking beautifully and the draw on this cigar is flawless. On top of that, the flavor profile of this stogie is incredible. Definitely a must-try for all the fans of Corona Gorda vitolas. There are flavors of wood, earth, hay and nuts. There is also lots of creamy espresso, and some mineral notes. It might not be the most complex cigar, but it nevertheless won’t let you indifferent. Some delicate touches of pepper also spice up the Epicure No.1, whereas in terms of strength, it never goes over a medium body. The Hoyo de Monterrey Hermosos No.4 Anejados is of Corona Extra format, 48 ring gauge and 5 inches (127mm) in length This cigar was released in late 2015 along with the Partagas Coronas Gordas Anejados as special editions that are available in very limited quantities. The particularity of these cigars is that they have been produced 5 to 8 years ago and then aged in their original cedar boxes. These cigars are incredibly mild and creamy due to the aging process and develop an intense woody flavor thanks to cedar box that contains the Hermosos No.4. These are rather mild cigars, with a body evolving from mild to medium, which makes them the perfect daily smoke. Nonetheless, they are also pretty complex cigars, in addition to woody flavors, there are also notes of pepper, leather and of bittersweet chocolate. Each box has been individually box opened and each stick has been checked before being banded with an additional Aged Habanos (Anejados) band. This is why you can find under each box the original stamp recording the date and factory where they have been rolled 8 years ago plus an additional “Revisado” (checked) stamp. En savoir plus

The Hoyo de San Juan from Hoyo de Monterrey is a tasty medium-bodied geniales, with 54 ring gauge and 5.9” (150mm) long and comes in a box of 25 cigars. Released at the 2014 Habanos Festival, this big ring gauge cigar is reminiscent of the old brand, but with a modern twist that appeal to many big ring gauges aficionados. It sports a new band which reads “Serie Le Hoyo” but as any Hoyo de Monterrey, it is hand rolled only using tobacco from San Juan y Martínez district, where the brand was born in 1865. It is of light to medium flavor, very aromatic and rich smoke. One of the best Hoyo out there. Has a great potential for aging, which would make it even smoother. En savoir plus

The Hoyo de Monterrey Primaveras is a 2021 special release Habano, a 6.62” (167mm) by 48 ring gauge, and comes in a luxury box of 18 cigars. It is celebrating the Chinese zodiac calendar, 2021 being the year of the Ox, which brings prosperity and wellness. The number 8 is considered a lucky number in the Chinese culture and it is pronounced ‘Fa’ which can be translated to ‘well off’ and ‘getting rich in a short time’. Presented virtually by the Habanos distributor for the Southeast Asia region, the 18 cigars come in an elegant enameled red and gold box, with the words “Year of the Ox” printed on the lid. The cigar is a Grand Corona, or more precisely a vitola de galera called Hermosos No. 1, which was previously used for the Montecristo Dantés Edición Limitada 2016, the Romeo y Julieta Hermosos No. 1 Edición Limitada 2003 and a La Casa del Habano exclusive release, the San Cristobal Mercaderes. Like all Hoyo de Monterrey cigars, it is medium in strength, so it shouldn’t be paired with something too strong, but is a great morning cigar which should only get better with some ageing. The Juan Lopez Seleccion No.1 is a rich and tasty medium Habanos of Grand Corona format, 5.6” (143mm) long, of 46 ring gauge, and comes in a 25 cigars box. The Juan Lopez brand is one the oldest founded in Cuba, in 1876. Released in 1990s, it is fully hand-made with Vuelta Abajo filler leaves. It can be sometimes hard to find, as the production can be interrupted at times, due to high quality standards. It is a Corona Gorda format, an extraordinary compromise between a Churchill, a Hermoso No.4 and a Corona. It is full of flavors; the aromas are well balanced between woodsy, earthy, sweet and peppery aromas and some creaminess to bind it all. The texture of the Juan Lopez Seleccion No.1 is amazing, generates lots of creamy smoke and an amazing taste. It can be both enjoyed young and fresh or with some more age and would delight both the beginner and the cigar aficionado. In short, a very impressive smoke by a lesson-known Cuban brand.
