The Partagas Capitols announced in 2017, are finally here. Splendid little cigars, 5” (129mm) by 42, they come in retro style metal packs of 5 cigars. These are true Partagas cigars, rolled with tobacco grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone, and offer rich and balanced typical Cuban flavors: wood, leather, pepper. The Partagas 8-9-8 is a strong and delicate medium-full Lonsdale, 6.7” (170mm) long, of 43 ring gauge, and comes in a varnished cabinet of 25 cigars. This Partagas is named after the number of Habanos placed on each layer of the cabinet, there are 8 cigars on the top and bottom row and 9 in the middle one. This is a great cigar that is medium-to-full body, which will better suit a Cuban cigar aficionado rather than a newcomer to Habanos. Thanks to its almost perfect construction, it offers an amazing draw, and burns beautifully throughout the entire cigar, while a luxurious ash builds up at the foot. The 8-9-8 provides typical Partagas flavors, lots of charred aromas, musty earth, wood, cocoa, leather. These are strong flavors, as expected, mixed with some fruity notes, some nuts, some pepper, and some Asian spice. The Montecristo No.3 is a creamy and complex underrated cigar, of Corona format, of 42 ring gauge, 5.6” (142mm) long and comes in 5 packs of 5 cigars. It is slightly bigger than the Montecristo No.4 but smaller than the No.1, two very famous cigars. Therefore, it creates a bridge between the two, it has the same ring gauge as the No.4 but slightly longer. The Hoyo de San Juan from Hoyo de Monterrey is a tasty medium-bodied geniales, with 54 ring gauge and 5.9” (150mm) long and comes in a box of 25 cigars. Released at the 2014 Habanos Festival, this big ring gauge cigar is reminiscent of the old brand, but with a modern twist that appeal to many big ring gauges aficionados. It sports a new band which reads “Serie Le Hoyo” but as any Hoyo de Monterrey, it is hand rolled only using tobacco from San Juan y Martínez district, where the brand was born in 1865. The Hoyo de Monterrey Double Coronas is a subtle Cuban cigar, a light-medium Prominente, 7.6” (194mm) long, of 49 ring gauge, and comes in a 25 cigars box. For some, they say this is the best cigar in the world. This Double Corona has already confirmed its rank in the marketplace: it's a great smoke. The only complain that could be made about this cigar come from very seasoned aficionados who would say it might not be strong enough. As all vitolas from Hoyo de Monterrey this Doble Coronas (Double Coronas) is extremely well constructed. It has a smooth oily wrapper, a good draw and strong aromas. Every modern Habano has somehow been influenced by this amazing cigar, but it is in a league of its own. The Cohiba Siglo II is an amazing medium bodied Mareva, with 42 ring gauge, 5.1” (129mm) long and comes in aluminum tubes in a box of 15 cigars. Very well constructed cigar, it reflects Cohiba’s attention to detail and strive for perfection. The cigar smokes slowly and packs the typical Cohiba flavors in a shorter vitola. The Cohiba Siglo I is a classic Habano, a beautiful and complex Petit Corona, of 40 ring gauge, 4" (102mm) long and comes in a box of 25 cigars. This is the shortest cigar in the Linea 1492.This small format Habano, short and thin gauge, is a quick smoke. The burn is even and nice. A perfect choice for a short break.
