Cuban Cigars

The Trinidad Robusto Extra is a Habanos classic, a 6.1" (155mm) by 50, praised by all aficionados, coming back in a neat travel humidor of 14 cigars. To the dismay of many, the Trinidad Robusto Extra was discontinued in 2012, it is now available again but in a rare and luxurious travel humidor (only 10,000 are available) only sold at Duty-Free and Travel retail markets. Presented online during the Virtual Travel Retail Expo in late 2020, this humidor is the latest release in the series of Travel Humidors. Not only its limited quantity, but also the high quality materials used for this humidor (suede cover, high quality cedar wood lining) will make it very attractive to the collectors. This mini-humidor includes 14 cigars, a hygrometer and humidifier to preserve the cigars in the best condition possible while traveling. As every Trinidad cigar, the 14 Robusto Extras have all been rolled by hand by the best torcedores with tobacco leaves (long leaf filler) grown in the famous Vuelta Abajo region. The head is of course finished in the distinctive Trinidad “pigtail”. The cigars are also double banded, with a special and very elegant gold-foiled foot band. This vitola, also called Dobles (T) in the Cuban factories, is of very aesthetic proportion.

The Trinidad Coloniales is an elegant Cuban cigar, a medium-bodied Corona, 5.2” (132mm) long, of 44 ring gauge, and comes in 5 packs of 5 cigars. The Trinidad Casilda Colección Habanos is a La Casa Del Habanos exclusive release, a 7.28” (185mm) by 53, and comes in a book-shaped box of 24 cigars. Released in 2019, this is the perfect collectors’ item as its supply is surely very rare, being sold exclusively at La Casa Del Habanos stores and as only 3,000 boxes have been produced, each box being numbered from 1 to 3,000. As it is part of the Colección Habanos, it comes in a mandatory and very elegant book-shaped wooden cabinet, which never offered that many cigars except the “Obras Completas” Edition (released in 2011) which holds 30 cigars. As expected is among the pricier cigars out of Cuba.

The cigar itself is also unique; being of Sobresalientes No.2 vitola (Double Robusto shape), it is a massive cigar, perfectly rolled with tobacco grown in the Vuelta Abajo region. As every Trinidad cigar, the triple cap ends with the typical Trinidad pigtail.

The San Cristóbal de La Habana 20 Aniversario, a La Casa del Habano exclusive release, is 6.3” (162mm) by 52 ring gauge, and comes in a humidor of 20 cigars. Its official vitola name is the Capuleto, of Double Robusto size, only used once before by Hababanos with the Romeo y Julieta De Luxe Edición Limitada of 2013. First announced in 2019 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the brand launched in 1999, the San Cristobal de La Habana 20 Aniversario only hit the shelves in late 2020, and is sold exclusively in La Casa del Habanos stores around the world. This is the third LCDH exclusive release from San Cristóbal, after the Mercaderes and the Murallas released in the mid 00’s and now discontinued. Habanos really stepped up their presentation with these cigars, as they come in a beautiful pirate’s treasure chest shaped humidor, with a mix of light and dark woods. The cigars themselves are looking amazing, massive in size but tightly packed and virtually flawless. In addition to the usual San Cristóbal band, there is also a second band, reserved to the “La Casa del Habano” exclusive cigars. The Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills is a smooth, with 55 ring gauge, 5.1” (130mm) long and comes in a box of 25 cigars. It is one of the latest additions by Habanos S.A. to the Romeo y Julieta brand. After the Short Churchill was released with great success in 2006, Romeo and Julieta modelled all their newer vitolas after this awesome cigar. This is why the Wide Churchill is slightly longer and somewhat wider than the Robusto sized Short Churchills. The cigars are packed full of smooth, subtle, medium flavored aromas. Launched in 2010. The Romeo y Julieta Maravillas 8 is a 2020 special released Habano, a 6.1” (155mm) by 55 ring gauge, and comes in a luxury box of 8 cigars. It is celebrating the Chinese zodiac calendar, 2020 being the year of the Rat, which symbolizes wealth and surplus. The number 8 is considered a lucky number in the Chinese culture and appeals to the Chinese market with its beautiful red lacquered luxury box (red is the symbol of good fortune and joy), with some golden touches (a stylized golden rat), which color refers to wealth. Released for the Asian market, the Maravillas 8 cigar is shaped into a Maravillas No.3 vitola de galera, the same used by the Montecristo 520, a 2012 Limited Edition.

The Romeo y Julieta Exhibicion No.4 is a rich and elegant strong Corona Extra, with 48 ring gauge, 5" (127mm) long and comes in a box of 50 cigars. It similar to the Petit Coronas from the same brand, and full of flavors. It has obviously some familiarity with the other Marevas from Romeo y Julieta. It reveals some earthy, woody aromas, and also a good amount of leather and some hints of spice on the tongue. The Romeo y Julieta Club Kings is a medium Petit Corona cigar of 42 ring gauge, part of the Habanos Línea Retro series announced in 2017. Initially planned in 2011, it was finally released in 2018 after years of waiting. The original Club King from Romeo y Julieta was discontinued in the 1980s to the dismay of many aficionados.
