The Juan Lopez Seleccion Especial comes in a luxury boîte nature box of 25 cigars.

Appearance:

The Juan Lopez Seleccion Especial are a La Casa del Habano Limited Edition, so they come in a unique white luxury box. The box is beautifully lacquered and adorned by the Juan Lopez logo in full color on top of the box. The box is encased in an elegant green velvet sleeve and the box itself is of perfect finish, made in quality wood like a humidor and staying firmly shut with two magnets. The cigars also look amazing, the wrappers are oily and shiny, dark chocolate brown color (colorado maduro) with no apparent defects or veins. A ribbon is placed under one of the central cigars, which allows us to carefully pick up one of these gems. The cigars are big and their format is unusual as this vitola (named Fortuna) has only been used twice before for some Regional Edition cigars. They are 52 ring gauge by 6 ¾ inches long, and in addition to the usual Juan Lopez band, there is a La Casa del Habano secondary band.

Before lighting up

At cold, the Juan Lopez Seleccion Especial smells of sweet tobacco and faint cocoa.

Burn/ Draw

After a clean cut, the cold draw is perfect, not too easy. Once lit up, the cigar smokes beautifully and effortlessly.

Initial third:

In the first third, the Seleccion Especial starts off rather mild, with sweet flavors, notes of wood, green tea and floral notes. The cigar is very enjoyable from the get-go despite its young age, which is a very good sign for the future evolution of this cigar. Each puff generates plenty of smoke and the cigar burns perfectly all throughout the first third, the ash builds up in very sturdy dark concentric circles at the foot. The draw also remains amazing, this is a perfectly constructed cigar, which is what was expected from such a premium cigar.

Middle third:

The Juan Lopez Seleccion Especial remains an exceptional cigar in the second third, the smoke remains impeccable and effortless. The strength increased slightly and is now at the medium level. In terms of flavors, the Seleccion Especial evolved and now offers more salted flavors, most noticeable are wood, coffee, spices and some mineral taste (graphite), which is expected in a young cigar. The cocoa and sweet aromas have almost completely disappeared.

Final third:

In the final third, the Juan Lopez Seleccion Especial becomes more complex and finds a good balance between the bitterness and the sweet flavors. The spices marry beautifully with the wood and mineral flavors, it is very enjoyable and not overwhelming in flavors. Its construction remains impeccable until the very end and only when our fingers get burned we need to let it go.

In short, the Juan Lopez Seleccion Especial is already an exceptional cigar, coming in a beautiful box that stands out, so it is the perfect cigar for special occasions.
